Ripple lawsuit case against U.S. agency
In the past few years, Ripple has faced multiple lawsuits against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This case started with the sales of XRP in 2020, which were considered as unregistered security.
In July last year, the court decided that XRP sales were not security, as the product did not meet with the investment contract. However, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres still fined the company with $125 million due to violating institutional sales.
Later, in October 2024, the commission went against the court’s decision by seeking further review for the classification of XRP. This case affected not only the company but also the crypto industry.
After Paul Atkins’s announcement as the chairman of the SEC, Ripple’s executive praised Trump’s decision. Brad Garlinghouse mentioned it as “an outstanding choice” as he hopes it will be the end of the crypto prohibition era.
